The Bohally MP Challenge

There was lots of choice involved in the MP Challenge, the important thing was that we found things that would challenge us over the course of the year. For the physical activities there was also a Risk Management (RAMS) form that we needed to complete and have signed off by a teacher to make sure that we were as safe as possible while we did it. The were two documents provided:

RAMS for MP Challenge

Academic Challenge

For my academic challenge I had to undertake at least 2 academic tasks, in order to complete this part of the M.P. Challenge. I placed third in the Beyond Strange writing competition, completed my 40 Book Challenge, was awarded 3 maths badges, sat 6 ICAS exams, was in a winning team at iNVENTIONATOR and entered the Marlborough Performing Arts Piano Competition.

Physical Challenge

I also had to complete at least 2 physical challenges, in order to successfully complete the physical part of the M.P. Challenge. For one, I did a 3 day tramp from Pelorus to Nelson with my dad. It was really tough, but it was a great experience! A second challenge was the Big Tahuna 1km ocean swim, as I enjoy swimming, and I found it hard, but fun! For a third challenge I represented Bohally in the Tasman Triathlon Champs and in the Southern Tour (where I was placed second in the U13 NZ School Hill Climb and Time Trial Championships)

Community Service

8 hrs of community service is required in order to complete the M.P. Challenge. Wow! For this I helped as a group leader at a place called Theory Club, where young musicians like me can learn some music on the theoretical side of things, rather than the practical, which we do everyday. It was really great!

Engaged and Involved at Bohally

For the M.P. Challenge, we are also expected to take part in a number of responsibilities in school. For this, I joined the enviro-team, the peer mediation group, the road patrollers, and the school band! My favourite was the school band, as we play great music, and, in my opinion, are pretty good!

Presentation

The final challenge of the M.P. Challenge, is to create a presentation of your work for the challenge. This, for me, is it! This website has been my presentation tool, and I think it’s pretty cool. My dad helped and supported me lots with this, and I am very grateful of his help!

Extension

Although not required to complete the M.P. Challenge, the extension is still something to do! 16 hours of work on some sort of project! Wow! For this, I undertook my grade 4 music exam. In the weeks leading up to it, I did WAY more than 16 hours prep, and I passed the exam with distinction!

  1. Matthew, I’m stalking your blog and so far I love what I have read! I’ve managed to skim through your 40 Book Challenge and your MP Challenge and it seems you have really outdone yourself! Awesome effort, buddy! As a huge fan of your writing, I MUST get my hands on a copy of your story –  The Mystery of the Mabel Monster. Congratulations on being awarded 3rd place for this piece of writing…makes me that much more eager to read it!! Actually, am I pushing it by asking for a signed copy??
Keep up the fantastic work, Matthew, you truly are going places!
    Mrs T.
